Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling Fall In Love In Stunning Trailer For “La La Land”

La La Land may be months away from its official US premiere, but it’s making a pretty strong case to be considered a frontrunner for every Best Cinematography award there is. Seriously, in just a little over a minute, the trailer offers up more gorgeous imagery than most films released this year have during their entire duration.

Directed and written by Oscar winner Damien Chazalle (Whiplash), Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling star in the lead roles. Stone plays Mia, a lonely waitress who longs to be an actress while Gosling plays a struggling jazz pianist named Sebastian. The two meet and fall in love, though as they both get closer to reaching their dreams, their relationship begins to struggle. J.K. Simmons, John Legend and Rosmarie DeWitt will star in supporting roles.

La La Land has been described as a “modern take on the Hollywood musical,” and there’s plenty of shots within the trailer to justify that sentiment. The lush color palette, the fluid cinematography, the focus on a great romance and just the right amount of nostalgia hanging over the whole thing. Not to mention, Stone’s voice is pitch perfect; she sings an original song from the film entitled “Audition.”

Gosling and Stone have proven before they have the kind of chemistry to pull this thing off. There’s no doubt in my mind that La La Land will be good. But how good? We’ll have to wait and see.

The film will have its world premiere next week, where it will open the Venice Film Festival before being released December 2 in the United States.

You can watch the gorgeous trailer below. If you’re like me, one time won’t be enough.
